Curriculum Statement

The Bishops' is committed to meeting the requirements of the primary National Curriculum.
We offer a curriculum that is broad and balanced and will be taught with the consideration of the needs of all learners. The children's learning will reflect the content and challenge of the curriculum through inspiring, engaging and enquiry based opportunities which will inspire a passion for learning in readiness for the next stage of education.

Topic Learning

We use a blocked approach to the teaching of topics. This means that children will be taught each subject in a block rather than 1 lesson a week. The rationale for this is that the children can be immersed in a particular subject and the teacher can use day to day assessment to inform the next steps in learning. We use well planned first hand experiences as motivators for the topics, this includes class trips, visitors into school and planned events.  Each topic starts with a ‘big picture’ which shows the key questions the children will answer through their lessons, following an enquiry led approach. Children also complete a ‘what I already know’ and ‘What I want to find out’ using these to support independent research. Children complete learning outcome stickers which focus on the skill being taught allowing the children to clearly show a progression of the skills learnt.
