Maths Curriculum & Calculation Policy

If you have any questions about how we teach Mathematics at The Bishops' or how to support your child at home, please do not hesitate to speak to your child's class teacher or Miss Burnett, our Maths Lead.
Throughout The Bishops' we follow an approach which has been shared by the White Rose Maths Hub to form the basis of our planning; ensuring coverage of the relevant mathematical skills and concepts in each year group as well as consistency in our methods and language from Early Years to Year 6. We also use additional resources for example Maths of The Day (a resource that makes links between Maths and PE), NRICH and various online resources to support teaching and learning through our Maths lessons and other cross-curricular opportunities.
The following documents outline the progression of skills from Reception to Year 6 and show the methods taught by teachers. Children are able to apply these methods when being challenged to reason and problem solve in a range of contexts; demonstrating their secure knowledge of the procedural and conceptual ideas in mathematics.
